Roosevelt Elk
Hunt trophy bull elk on Afognak and Raspberry Islands, the second and third largest islands in the Kodiak Island archipelago. Both islands offer excellent opportunities to harvest mature, branch antlered bulls. Elk permits, for both islands, are allocated through a drawing held in January for a season date of Sept. 25th - Oct. 22nd. After Oct. 22nd elk permits for Afognak Island are available over the counter at the fish and game office in Kodiak in a registration system. The Raspberry Island elk permits do not become available for this registration hunt. Trophy Kodiak brown bear inhabit both of these islands. Brown bear permits are allocated through a drawing held in June as well. Brown bear season opens Oct. 25th - Nov. 30th. Brown bear and elk can be hunted from the same camp. See brown bear description for price of bear hunt. Sitka blacktail deer can be added to the elk hunt, with time remaining on the contracted hunt for a trophy fee. Three color phases of red fox are available and can be collected for no extra cost. Six of the fourteen species of seaducks that inhabit the Kodiak Island archipelago are accessible from the elk camps. They are harlequin, barrows and common goldeneye, common and red breasted mergansers, and bufflehead. Mallards are abundant as well. Ducks are shot over decoys placed adjacent to the beach and can be jumped off the beach as well. Hunting is conducted from fly in tent camps
